  • AG. Commodities

    All exhibitors must play an active role in the production of the agriculture commodity, completed by exhibitor during the current year.

    Section A: GRAIN

    Grain exhibits shall consist of one quart in a clear glass container, unless on ear is specified.  Exhibits will be judged on quality (such as size, color, uniformity and maturity), overall health, purity, and quantity (such as germination rate and vigor.)

    Hay must be cured below 20% moisture.  Alfalfa and clover hay with more than ten percent grass will be classified as mixed.  An entry shall consist of a bundle approximately 18” x 18” x 6” and should be securely tied four ways. Exhibits will be judged on maturity, leafiness, color, purity, and odor and condition.

  • Demonstrations

    A demonstration is a type of public speaking that explains how to perform an action easily and effectively.  The speaker creates a presentation that may combine verbal explanations, visual aids and practical performances to instruct how to acquire a skill, accomplish a procedure, or understand a process.  Topics can be diverse, such as “How to make biscuits,” or “How to draw a cartoon,” or “How I provide pet visitations for the elderly.” Demonstrations will be judged on subject matter, presentaion style, and audience impact.

    1. Online registration must be completed by 11pm on Wednesday, July 18. An incomplete entry form may lead to disqualification.
    2. Demonstrations will be held on Saturday.  Every effort will be made to schedule the demonstration in advance to avoid a time conflict with the exhibitor’s participation in outdoor classes.
    3. Participants will be provided a score sheet in advance to better prepare their presentations.
    4. Each demonstrator will be allowed 15 minutes to present his/her demonstration for the judge(s) as well as an audience that is open to the public.
    5. Presentations will be held outdoors (weather permitting.)
    6. A table and sound system will be available.
    7. Food Demonstrations must include a recipe and a finished product. (Per Health Department regulations, no food samples may be given out.)
    8. Brand name endorsements are not allowed.  Brand names should not be mentioned or visually apparent on any item.

    In addition to ribbons, a cash premium of $8.00 will be awarded for each demonstration.

  • Educational Displays

    Educational Displays consists of both group and individual displays and offers an opportunity for exhibitors to showcase their home and agricultural heritage.

    1.      Online registration is required by July 15 deadline.  An incomplete entry form may result in disqualification. 

    2.      Entries shall be set up and in place between 3:00 and 6:00 PM, Friday. Entries shall be placed inside and outside, as specified in the entry form. The Fair Committee will supply the space.  Exhibitors must supply tables, hardware, poster board, etc

    3.      Exhibitors are restricted to one individual entry and one entry as part of a group.

    4.      The maximum size for any indoor display is 3’x5’, outdoor display is 10’ x 10’

    5.      The theme of your display must be included on the entry blank. 

    6.      The department chairman has the right to decline any exhibit that in his/her judgment is not complying with the rules and the spirit of the exhibit.

    7.      The Fair Committee will take responsible precautions for the safety of the exhibits but will assume no responsibility for damage or loss to an exhibit.

    Exhibits will be judged on subject matter, audience impact, materials used, originality and neatness.

    Agriculture Challenge Class:

    Each year the Fair will offer an agricultural challenge highlighting an agricultural topic.  The topic this year is Vertical Farming.  The challenge is for an exhibitor to construct a ‘model’ of a vertical farm of the future which meets the requirements in the judging criteria.  For ideas and examples of vertical farms you may Google ‘Vertical Farming’ or go to www.verticalfarm.com and click designsfor to collect ideas. All entries must be the work of the exhibitor, completed during the current year.

    Agricultural Challenge, Vertical

     Farming

             

    Exhibits will be judged on the required eleven elements listed below. Labeling parts of the structure will be helpful in the judging process.

    Criteria Elements: 

     
    Structure:     
    1.  Size – max. of 2’ tall and does not extend beyond a 9” x 9” base, min. of 3 levels to the structure.
    2.  Sturdiness of design – sturdy and securely attached to the 9” x 9” base.

    Growing Area:
    3.  Plant and Crops – a wide selection of crops grown on the various levels – all crops should be labeled.
    4.  Planting Beds – the plants are planted in planting beds on the floors of the building.

    Public Area in Building:
    5.  Farmers Market or Restaurant on one of the levels so people can purchase food produced in the building.

    Power:
    6.  Source of renewable power located on outside of the building – solar or wind.
    7.  Growing lights inside of the building above the planting beds so plants can grow.

    Water:
    8.  Source of water for building:  some type of a collection system to collect rain water.
    9.  Irrigation for plants in planting beds on various levels of building.

    Exterior Landscaping:
    Hardscape:  Appropriate walkways, benches and signs to beautify the exterior landscape of building.
    Softscape:  Trees, shrubs and flowers to decorate the landscape and make it inviting to the public.

  • Fine Arts

    All entries must be the work of the exhibitor, completed without assistance during the current year.

    1. Due to limited space exhibitors may enter a total of five (5) exhibits.
    2. Art MUST be displayed on a poster board or mounting board, unless art is displayed in a frame.
    3. The exhibitor tag should be attached to the back of the board with a paper clip.  (There should be no writing displayed on the front of the exhibit.)
    4. When entering exhibits into classes, present the art in numerical class order to speed registration.

    Exhibits will be judged on overall appearance, composition, originality, and use of medium. Please note: we are unable to accept multimedia art at this time (ex. Slide shows, videos etc.)

  • Foods

    FOODS GUIDELINES 

    1.      Senior exhibitors must do 100% of the food preparation.  Junior exhibitors may have help preparing exhibits but must do at least 75% of the work.  Under Age 9 exhibitors are not encouraged to enter FOODS because of kitchen safety considerations; however, any Under Age 9 exhibits will be judged as Juniors.

    2.      Half cakes and pies will be accepted.

    3.      All FOODS exhibits must be presented on a STURDY 10” white PAPER PLATE and COVERED for safe handling.  The plate may be inside a Ziploc bag or covered with plastic wrap.  Cakes may be presented on a cake plate with a clear cover.

    4.      Exhibitor tags/ score sheets may be taped to or inserted inside the exhibit cover. Follow instructions on tag to fill out needed information.

    5.      Foods “FROM SCRATCH” must be accompanied by the RECIPE, including ingredients and specifics about how the item was prepared, handled, combined, mixed and baked. Recipes may be handwritten or computer generated on a 3 x 5 CARD or HALF SHEET of letter paper.

    6.      “BAKED GOODS FROM A MIX” must be accompanied by the LABEL & INSTRUCTIONS cut from the mix package.

    7.      Any food undercooked, spoiled, or deemed unsafe for tasting will not be judged. The Department Head reserves the right to dispose of any perishable item for food safety reasons if deemed necessary.

     
    CHEESE GUIDELINES

     
    1. All milk used MUST be pasteurized.

    2. Please note what type of milk you are using. for example- Cow, Goat, Sheep, etc...

    3. Please bring approximately 4oz of cheese in a clear plastic container

    4. After processing the cheese please keep it refrigerated and transport to the Fair in a cooler for the judges safety.

    5. must include a "recipe" and what type of rennet or culture used.


    FOOD PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

    1.      Decorated Cakes:
    Judging criteria: complexity of design, color: selection, coordination and appeal, craftsmanship and overall appearance. All decorated cake and decorated cupcake entries will be cut and tasted. All decorations must be edible.

    2.      Lunch Box:

     a.        includes all age groups who must do 100% of the work.

     b.      must include a complete MENU handwritten or computer generated on a 3 x 5 card or HALF SHEET of letter paper

     c.       must include food, beverage, napkin, and utensils needed for meal


    FOOD PRESERVATION GUIDELINES

    1.      must be LABELED with the name of the food, date preserved, method of food processing and processing time

    2.      must be accompanied by the RECIPE.

    All entries must be the work of the exhibitor, completed without assistance during the current year.  Garments must:

    • Be clean and in good repair. 
    • Entered on a hanger with the pattern attached. 
    • Have the exhibitor tag secured with a safety pin to clothing or attached to the hanger with string.
    • Include on the back of exhibitor tag the number of years experience (or months, as appropriate) relative to class skill.

  • Photography

    1. All photographs must be taken by the exhibitor during the current year.
    2. Due to limited space, exhibitors may enter a total of five (5) photographs.
    3. Photographs must be displayed on sturdy mounting such as poster board or mounting board no larger than 8” x 10”.  Photographs may be 3 x 5, 4 x 6, or 5 x 7.
    4. The exhibitor tag should be attached to the back of the board with a paper clip.  (There should be no writing displayed on the front of the exhibit.)
    5. No transparencies or slides are allowed.  Polaroid prints may be used.
    6. Photographs should be presented in numerical order to speed registration.
    7. A photographic image may only be entered in ONE class.

    1. Be clean.
    2. Have stems removed. Carrots and beets should have tops removed.
    3. Be presented on a firm, white 10” paper plate.
    4. Have exhibitor tag / score sheet attached to the plate. 
    5. If the plant variety is known, write the variety on the paper plate. i.e. “Roma Tomato”.
